Lionsgate brings “The Glass Castle” based on a true story, also on a Jeannette Walls’ memoir entitled The Glass Castle. “The Glass Castle” 2017 unravels the dilemma that children in a certain family have to endure during their childhood. Having been born of an alcoholic father (Rex Walls) and an eccentric mother (Rose Mary Walls), who is an artist, the children fail to get the true meaning of childhood.
They are four children and Jeannette Walls is the second oldest. When she turned six, her father and mother have to switch places around California and Arizona since they hardly afford the expenses. Despite being a lonely place, they manage to get peace and simple happiness while Rex Walls works for a mining company. Rose Mary Walls gets a teaching job, but that won’t be enough since Rex has lost his job. Being a disorganized family, the children are greatly affected and inflicted inside. Rex’s ways of comforting them are torturous and stir up inner hate for the family.
When Rex and Mary are out, one of Jeannette’s siblings retrieves his father’s gun trying to shoot Jeannette. Another sister intervenes who gets another gun to scare away their brother. The police is called and the children are taken along. When Rex and Rose learn of the incident, they merely run away to Arizona. The children are then sent to live with their grandmother, but things just get complicated
